Create Random Sampling Points

Creates a new feature class with randomly spread points.

Parameter

Comments

Output workspace or feature dataset

<out_path>

Select the output workspace or geodatabase feature dataset where the new random points will be stored.

Output feature class name

<out_name>

Specify the output random points feature class name.

Number of points

<point_number>

Specify the number of random points to be generated.

Type of point number

<point_number_type>

Select if the specified above number of points is the TOTAL number of random points, PERCENTAGE of reference points or MAXIMUM number of points per the reference feature.

Extent

{extent}

Define the extent for output random points. Extent can be: Default (as set in Geoprocessing Environments), Union or Intersection of input datasets, Custom specified extent, Current display extent, or extent of any selected layer from the map.

Reference layer

{reference_data}

Select if you wish to use a reference layer for the random points. This can be any point, polyline or polygon layer in the map. New random points will be generated at the reference points, along the reference polylines or within the reference polygons.

Constraining feature layer

{constraining_data}

Select if you wish to use any layer in the map as a constraining layer. New random points won't be generated at the points, along the lines or within the polygons of the selected layer.

Minimum allowed distance

{min_distance}

Specify the minimum distance allowed between random points.
