Table Restructure: Defining new table structure

Initially the structure of the table being created coincides with the source table structure. If there is no source table, the structure of a new table will contain only one OID field for tables, or OID and Shape fields for feature classes.

In the left part of the window there is a list of the available fields. Each of them can be selected for transformation.

UP and DOWN arrows are provided to move a field within the table and allow changing the fields order in that way. Select a field to move and replace it, moving up or down with the arrows.

Note: fields OID and Shape cannot change their position in the table.

To DELETE unnecessary field(s) select this field(s) from the list and click the "Delete Field" button.

To ADD a new field click the "Add Field" button. By default, each new added field is named "Field_0", "Field_1", "Field_2" etc.

Fields name as well as all the other parameters can be viewed and changed in the right part of the window.

There is the following limitation for new fields: a table may contain only one OID field and only one Shape type field. At that a table may contain the Shape type field only containing the OID field.

For each attribute field the following parameters can be viewed and changed:

  • Name

  • Alias

  • Type:

- This field may have the following values: OID, Shape, Short, Integer, Float, Double, String or Blob

  • Length: This parameter is to be specified for String and Blob type fields

  • Precision: This parameter is to be specified for numeral fields

  • Scale: This parameter is to be specified for Float and Double type fields

  • Source field: This parameter assigns the source table field to take data from

  • Error value: This parameter specifies a value that a field will contain in case if it is impossible to bring the source data to the specified type, when the Source field is specified.

Besides, for the String type fields the capitalization parameter can be specified or modified. Available capitalization types are: "all lower case", "ALL UPPER CASE", "Word capitalization", and "String capitalization":

For the Shape type field the following parameters are to be specified:

  • Alias

  • Feature type

  • Spatial Reference

  • Contain Z Values

  • Contain M Values

Note:

  • "Blob" type fields are not available for and cannot be added to shapefiles or standalone tables.

Having specified all the required parameters, please, click "Next" to get to the next step.
