Create FeatureClass/Table: Designing FeatureClass/Table structure

Initially the structure of the new table contains only one OID field for tables, or OID and Shape fields for feature classes.

To add a new field click the button "Add field..". By default each new added field is named "Field_0", "Field_1", "Field_2" etc.

UP and DOWN arrows on the right of the fields list are provided to move a field within the table and changing the fields order in that way. Please, select a field to move and replace it, moving up or down with the help of arrows. Note that  OID and Shape fields cannot change their place in the table.

Field name as well as all other parameters can be indicated in the right part of the window.

There is the following limitation for fields determining: a table may contain only one OID type field and only one Shape type field. At that a table may contain the Shape type field only containing the OID type field.

For each field the following parameters can be indicated or changed:

  • Name

  • Alias

  • Type: This field may have the following values: OID, Shape, Short, Integer, Float, Double, String or Blob

  • Length: This parameter is to be specified for String and Blob type fields

  • Precision: This parameter is to be specified for numeral fields

  • Scale: This parameter is to be specified for Float and Double type fields

  • Allow null: This parameter specifies if this field can have the null value or not.

For the OID field only Name and Alias (for personal geodatabases) are to be specified.

For the Shape field the following parameters are to be specified:

  • Name

  • Alias

  • Feature type

  • Spatial Reference

  • Contain Z Values

  • Contain M Values

Spatial reference (coordinate system) can be predefined for this tool in the Customize XTools Pro Components dialog.

In this case this will be the default coordinate system for all your feature classes, unless changed in the wizard.

To delete a field select this field in the list and click the button "Delete Field".

Note:

  • "Blob" type fields are not available for and cannot be added to shapefiles or standalone tables.

Having specified all the required parameters, please, click "Next" to get to the next step.
